The Gulfstream G500 (formerly the Gulfstream V) is a business jet aircraft produced by General Dynamics' Gulfstream Aerospace unit, located in, Savannah, Georgia. Designated C-37A in U.S. Air Force service, the Gulfstream V fulfills missions for government and Defense Department officials.
The aircraft has a flight management system with a worldwide satellite-based Global Positioning System. The C-37A is capable of cruise at 51,000 feet. Features include enhanced weather radar, autopilot and head-up display for the pilot. Safety features include Enhanced Vision Systems that allows increased visibility in austere environments. The aircraft is also equipped with commercial and military communications equipment to provide secure voice and data capability. The U.S Air Force equips the C-37A with a basic crew of two pilots, 1 flight engineer, 1 communications systems operator, and 1 flight attendant.

Gulfstream V
The Gulfstream V (also referred to as the G5) first flew in 1995, was certified in 1997, and was one of the first "ultra-long range" (~6000 nautical miles) business aircraft. Capable of carrying up to 16 people in standard seating configurations, and able to fly up to 6,500 nautical miles (12,038 km), the GV became the longest range business jet ever made (at the time of its introduction).
Gulfstream G550
The upgrade of this jet, released to the market in 2003, has increased performance and is referred to as the Gulfstream G550 (Gulfstream V SP). Range is increased to 6,750 nautical miles (12,501 km), mostly due to reductions in aerodynamic drag. The Gulfstream 550 is the longest range business jet in the world. Additionally, this aircraft has a "Planeview" cockpit (which consists of 4 Honeywell 21 EFIS screens, and a Gulfstream-designed cursor control system), and an "Enhanced Vision System" (EVS), an infrared camera that displays an image of the view in front of the camera on a head up display. EVS permits the aircraft to land in lower-visibility instrument meteorological conditions than a non-EVS-equipped aircraft. This aircraft may be distinguished from the legacy Gulfstream V by a seventh passenger window on both sides of the aircraft, and by the square outflow valve on the aircraft right side as compared to the circular one on the GV.
The Gulfstream 550 competes against the Airbus Corporate Jet, Boeing Business Jet, and the Bombardier Global Express.
Gulfstream G500
The G500 is a shorter range version of the G550, also introduced in 2003. It has the same exterior appearance, as well as the Planeview cockpit, but does not have EVS as standard equipment, although it is available as an option. It also has a lower fuel capacity, reducing its range to 5,800 nautical miles.
Operators
Gulfstream Vs and 550s also operate in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Coast Guard, under the designation C-37.
The 89th Airlift Wing’s 99th Airlift Squadron, Andrews Air Force Base, Md., operates four C-37As. The 6th Air Mobility Wing’s 310th Airlift Squadron, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida operates three C-37As. The 15th Airlift Wing's 65th Airlift Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii operates one C-37A.[1] The 86th Airlift Wing's 309th Airlift Squadron, Chievres Air Base, Belgium has one C-37A.
The United States Coast Guard has operated one C-37A as CG-01, the commandant's executive transport, since May, 2002.
The Greek Air Force operates 2 G500 units for VIP transport and particularely for transport of government officials. This jets are equiped with AEW (Airborne Early Warning) and anti-missile systems.
Israel has acquired a number of G550s, fitted with IAI Phalcon radars, for Airborne Early Warning use.
