IAR 316

The IAR 316 the Romanian version, built under licence, of Aerospatiale SA 319B Alouette III light utility helicopter. IAR 316 is used for both military and civil purposes. The production started in 1971 at the IAR plant near Braşov and ended in 1987. Until than 201 units were built (125 of those for the Romanian military), others were exported to countries like Pakistan, Angola and Guinea. The helicopter is still operational with the Romanian Air and Air Defense Forces as a training helicopter. A light attack helicopter (IAR 317) was also developed based on IAR 316 but only one prototype has been built, it participated at LeBourget 1985 air show.
