The EM-11 Orka (orca) is a Polish touring and executive aircraft.
History
The EM-11 was designed by Edward Margański in a small firm Margański & Mysłowski Zakłady Lotnicze (Margański & Mysłowski Aviation Works), renowned for their glider designs (Swift S-1, MDM-1 Fox). Works upon a new cheap light utility aircraft, of unorthodox composition, with slim glider-like fuselage and two pusher engines, started in 2001. The plane is constructed of composite materials and has a car-like 4-seat cab placed low over the ground, with convenient taking places. Some cargo can be taken instead a rear row of seats.
The first prototype EM-11 first flew on August 8, 2003 (factory number P-22, registration SP-YEN). It was fited with a fixed tricycle landing gear and Rotax 912 (100 hp) engines. The second prototype, being a pattern for a serial production variant EM-11C, flew on October 20, 2005 (factory no. P-24, registration SP-YEP). It has Lycoming IQ-320 engines and a retractable landing gear. Currently (2006) there are preparations for production of the plane.
There are planned numerous variants, including patrol aircraft with FLIR head, air ambulance, cargo plane, amphibian plane.
