Bristol Racer

From PlaneSpottingWorld, for aviation fans everywhere

The Bristol Type 72 Racer was a British racing monoplane designed by Wilfrid Thomas Reid and built by the Bristol Aeroplane Company at Filton Aerodrome, England.[1]

Design and development

The Bristol Racer was a single-engine monoplane with a monocoque fuselage and, unusually for the time, a retractable landing gear.[1] It was powered by a 480 hp (360 kW) Bristol Jupiter IV radial engine.[1] One aircraft was built in 1922 and registered G-EBDR on 27 June 1922.[2] The aircraft made a few test flights and was allocated and painted with the racing number 10 for the 1922 Aerial Derby.[1] The aircraft was not ready to race and was eventually scrapped in 1924.[1]
