Tim Trent, welcome to Plane Spotting World

If this is the first time you've used a wiki you may have a few questions. Most of the answers are obvious. To learn to edit, why not just dive in? At the foot of the editing window there is a help link. This opens in a new window and gives you a good overview of wiki syntax and stuff.

There are very few rules here. The best summary is:

• Respect other people's Copyright
• Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you
• Do no harm

This is not an encyclopaedia. Pages here do not need to comply with encyclopaedic notions or citations or neutrality. Just dive in and start.

It's always worth having a look at Control tower every so often, too.

One of the first things you might want to do is to place {{talktome}} at the top of your talk page (this page) above this welcome message. Taking heed of what it says will make it much easier for you to follow discussions on talk pages.

And while you browse the site, and especially when you've created something truly worthwhile, why not Digg and also tag on del.icio.us – the tools are in the left hand menu. The more Diggs (etc) we have the better, because Diggs and del.icio.us links add to our findability. The best way to find out about them is to click on the tool. Each is different and each gives you the chance to "rate" any article here. Or anywhere else come to that!

"Snap", the little link preview window, has options in it that you can tailor to meet your needs. If you like it, stay with the defaults. If not then you can turn it off easily

Best yet you have a Spotting World Blog if you want it. Have a look at your User page. There is a link to let you create your blog. This is part of what Spotting World does for you. Or just go to blogs.spottingworld.com. You can use your blog for any lawful purpose. It's yours to do with as you like. Anyone can read your blog once you create it, but only you can write to it.

Templates...

Hi Tim,

There are a few templates within the new main page that don't exit yet - ive tried copying them over, but theyre not working. ive deleted them - can you have a go? just go to Main Page/Sandbox to have a look.

The 1 i was having troulbe with was Template:Dot. The template now works, but the documentation from TSW isnt working properly.

I will create a list at Planes:Grab from TSW of things that are needed. And also some stuff for TSW, explained there!

It's a really tiresome process of diligently copying every goshdarned redlinked template I'm afraid. WP has some "elegant" template coders that seem to like to make life really hard for everyone, too. It's a never ending trail of redlinks to follow. I copied over SOME of the template documentation from TSW for "Dot" and it took 10 minutes"! Much more works now! Tim Trent 22:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Template issue

The problem that I can see is in the style parameter to the {{navigation}} template. When I comment that parameter (in User:Slambo/Template test3), the vde links are not overlapping the bar title. Has the common.css been copied too? There are two class calls in that template that may offset this behavior. Slambo 01:00, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

We copied no specific CSS. I suspected CSS because IE differs from FF. I can bring any CSS acrosss that you can identify that we need (Or you can if you prefer. I am about to sysop you) Tim Trent 09:21, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Interesting. I brought across this difffrom WP and the template displayed perfectly (Aircontent, I mean. So I changed it to the original and it all went pear shaped, so I changed it back. But, now I sit here quietly, I may have been fooled by the job queue (Special:Statistics). When this is empty a new test should be done. Have I ever mentioned that this job queue concept is stupid? Template:Aircraft_specifications. I think the word "Bugger!" said with feeling, is appropriate here. But I am convinced it is a CSS issue. Tim Trent 12:19, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

No worries over not doing this before. I'm not here a lot. (When I am, I tend to get list pages like this, & the redlinks bug me til I fill 'em in. I've goofed on PZL.23 Karaś & PZL.37 Łoś (before I realized there were letters PSW wouldn't accept). If I can't take 'em down, will you? Thx. Ghostrider2 23:28, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Template?

Not sure if there's an EZ fix, but {{Northrop aircraft}} is coming back with a bad link. CF-116 is the Canadair CF-5, but there's no way to fix the template link. I'm disinclined to add redirects unless I have to... Ghostrider2 22:03, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Not really sure what the issue is, but surely this can be handled by putting the correct link in the template? Am I missing the point here?

The thing is I am really "just" the provider of the resource. The wiki is there for folk to enjoy and to turn into a real community with far fewer restraints than WP has. So I think it is up to your judgment over the best solution Tim Trent 22:37, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Copyvio?

This has raised concerns at WP. I created both, with same content, so I've no beef it being copied, but if you can message User:Sturmvogel 66 at WP & clarify, it'd probably be less worries for everybody concerned. Ghostrider2 22:35, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
