Tbo 157, welcome to Plane Spotting World

If this is the first time you've used a wiki you may have a few questions. Most of the answers are obvious. To learn to edit, why not just dive in? At the foot of the editing window there is a help link. This opens in a new window and gives you a good overview of wiki syntax and stuff.

There are very few rules here. The best summary is:

  • Respect other people's Copyright
  • Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you
  • Do no harm

This is not an encyclopaedia. Pages here do not need to comply with encyclopaedic notions or citations or neutrality. Just dive in and start.

It's always worth having a look at Control tower every so often, too.

One of the first things you might want to do is to place {{talktome}} at the top of your talk page (this page) above this welcome message. Taking heed of what it says will make it much easier for you to follow discussions on talk pages.

And while you browse the site, and especially when you've created something truly worthwhile, why not Digg and also tag on del.icio.us – the tools are in the left hand menu. The more Diggs (etc) we have the better, because Diggs and del.icio.us links add to our findability. The best way to find out about them is to click on the tool. Each is different and each gives you the chance to "rate" any article here. Or anywhere else come to that!

Best yet you have a Spotting World Blog if you want it. Have a look at your User page. There is a link to let you create your blog. This is part of what Spotting World does for you. Or just go to blogs.spottingworld.com. You can use your blog for any lawful purpose. It's yours to do with as you like. Anyone can read your blog once you create it, but only you can write to it.

There is also a live chat room - see the left hand menu

Any questions, please ask any user on their talk page.

And please tell all your friends about us

Hi

Hey Tbo, shall i port over all the temps etc for the new main page here? aswell as the basic structure? Thanks --Bluegoblin7 19:31, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Ye sure. That would be helpful. Tbo 157 19:46, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Righto. Tim has made you an admin, Feel free to do what you want here(within reason!)
Bare in mind that most of the TSW stuff needs bringing over here, EXCEPT help, adoption etc. They should go to Page Spotting World
Cheers,
Bluegoblin7 23:09, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Tbo 157 19:24, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Here still?

I thought you were departing after screwing up your passwords?

Bluegoblin7 15:35, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Different password and account here. I just left TSW so that I can get mroe time for other things which need doing plus I feel that Ive done the most I can offer in both of those wikis. But I just felt that I couldn't leave here until I at least get things up and running to a basic level. IF you have any questions about TSW ask me here and Ill try and sort it out. Regarding WP, Im not very active there anyway these days. Tbo 157 17:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ah ok. We are having a problem with the TJ over at TSW. Look at my talk page for more info, but basically it's a problem with transclusion (look at Tim's page), and center tags.
It will move to Spotting World once were going, but for now let me know...
Also, we've listed you as departed - look on your talk page. Is this ok?
Bluegoblin7 17:38, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ye, thats fine. I won't be there anyway. I won't be here much but I'll keep this one so you can ask me questions. Ill probably look at the bugs and problems page I created at spottingworld quite regularly so if you put things there, it would be easier for me to help. Tbo 157 17:40, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok. if you prefer, we can do it via email? Click on me to email me... Bluegoblin7 17:42, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ill have a look at the Transport Journal page now. Tbo 157 17:43, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok thanks. BG7 17:44, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Instead of transcluding the page Trains:The Transport Journal/Current Issue you should transclude Trains:The Transport Journal/Issue number to avoid transcluding a page which has been transcluded from another page. Tbo 157 17:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Im having a look at the coding problem now. Tbo 157 17:49, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok thanks. That's 2 down 1 to go, as i've fixed the noeditsection one.
Look at the text <center>'''''Merry Christmas to everyone'''''<center> on the page. The last center tag should be </center> as opposed to <center>. Tbo 157 17:54, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh you've done that. Tbo 157 17:55, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Another problem is that when transcluded all the sections come up as lvl 2 header sections. Any way of fixing it? Effectivly, Tim has gained 5 sections from the newsletter, but only one has anything on it! BG7 18:01, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Ive discovered the problematic bit of coding regarding the cntering of words so Ill find a way to deal with that. Tbo 157 18:03, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Look at the change Ive made at User:Tbo 157/Sandbox and do the same as I did for the actual newsletter. That should resolve the centering problem. ILl have a look at the other problems Tbo 157 18:06, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Hmmmm... still not working... And those edit sections are back. It' screwing up the whole site layout changing every word so it's in the centre! BG7 19:13, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
It is working. Look at Tim's talk page. Press shift + refresh if you need to. Tbo 157 19:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
hmmm... still can't see it... BG7 20:52, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Tooltips?!

Hi Tbo,

I updated the side bar at Trains, and am about to do the same here, but how do i add "tooltips"?

Thanks,

Wiki of lists

Caught your reply. Thanks. I notice some of WP's imported stubs are working, now. Good job. Just FYI, I'm still seeing infobox templates not working, like in GB-4. I'll have a look at guidelines about including weaps/missiles. Also, I put up List of United States military aircraft as a lift from WP's List of military aircraft of the United States, so anybody can just cut & paste into the red links here. My thinking was to merge LoUSMA here with WP's LoMAotUS (navy), which is a split I found odd & confusing; maybe when I get a few days, I'll take it on. To rpt, if you c&p from WP, don't forget "what links here"; it may give you pp you missed. Ciao. Ghostrider2 23:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I'll reply for Tbo - he won't mind!
It may be the infoboxes aren't online - we're still relatively new!
Feel free to add/merge/rename anything you want - if you need things deleting ask me, Tbo or CraigTC, and we'll sort it out. Same with protection etc.
And a quick note: when you copy pages from WP, please add {{From Wikipedia}} to the talk page - it's a legal thing part of the GFDL license. For commons images, it {{From Commons}} that you want.
Does that answer your qs?
Oh and are you interested in subscribing to our newsletter [[TJ|The Transport Journal]?
Thanks,
