Walther HWK 109-509
The HWK 109-509 was a German liquid-fuel rocket engine that powered Messerschmitt Me 163 and Bachem Ba 349. It was produced by Hellmuth Walther Kommanditgesellschaft.
It used a two component hypergolic fuel/oxidizer combination, controlled by two pumps, to regulate the rate of combustion and thereby, the amount of thrust.
The fuel was hydrazine and an oxidizer of hydrogen peroxide and water mix (80%/20%) which reacted violently on contact under formation of water and nitrogen and a huge amount of heat sending out a hot stream of water vapour, nitrogen, and air, drawn in through the hole in the mantle of the engine, thus providing approximately 17 kN (3,800 lbf) thrust.
