Cuban Missile Crisis
From PlaneSpottingWorld, for aviation fans everywhere
During the Cuban Missle Crisis my squadron, VU-4, deployed from NAS Oceana to NAS Cecil Field Jacksonville Fl to support the RF-8A photo effort. We deployed a small contingent of persaonnel in support of 2 to 4 F8-A and F8-C Crusaders. We would forward the film returned from Cuba to NAS Cecil Field by the RF-8As (on its second leg) onward to the commands in Washington DC. One of our pilots then was LT Bill Worley who later was killed while a member of the Blue Angels in 1968. Submitted by: AZCM Lee Gauger USN-Ret
