The X-44 MANTA was a concept plane designed by Lockheed Martin and studied by NASA and the USAF. MANTA stands for Multi-Axis No-Tail Aircraft. It was inteded to test the possibility of full yaw, pitch and roll control without any use of tailplanes, whether horizontal or vertical. Mobility relies completely on 3D thrust vectoring. Unfortunately, the program was stopped in 2000, when funding was stopped.
