Description

File graphic of the Boeing 737-MMA - The Department of Defense announced today that McDonnell Douglas Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Boeing Company, has been awarded the contract to develop the U.S. Navy’s Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA). Built on a modified Boeing 737-800ERX, the 737-MMA will bringing together a highly reliable airframe and high-bypass turbo fan jet engine with a fully connected, state-of-the-art open architecture mission system. This combination, coupled with next-generation sensors, will dramatically improve Anti-Submarine Warfare, or ASW, and Anti-Surface Warfare, or ASuW, capabilities. 737-MMA will ultimately replace the U.S. Navy’s aging fleet of P-3C Orion Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance aircraft.
